    Getting Started with YellowBlock

    What does my YellowBlock real estate account include?
    Your YellowBlock real estate account includes many tools and resources for helping you establish realty business online. Some of these tools and resources include the following: Homepage and Site Editors (for website building), Property Listings Manager, Auto Responder, Search Engine Optimizer, Contact Center (includes email, calendar, address book), Pre-formatted Emails, unlimited customer support by phone and email, and much more.     What are the computer (system) requirements for using YellowBlock?
    To use YellowBlock, you will need the following:

  • PC with Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, or XP OR Macintosh operating system 8.6 or higher
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher OR Netscape Navigator version 6.0 or higher
  • A modem or other Internet connection capable of speeds of 28.8 kbps or greater

    Do you offer any type of money-back guarantee or trial period?
    Yes! We stand behind our customers. If you're not satisfied with your YellowBlock account in the first 30 days, contact customer support for a full refund. After the first 30 days, you may cancel your account at any time.

    How do I pay for my YellowBlock account?
    YellowBlock has flexible payment plans, ranging from monthly to yearly. You may pay for your account using one of the following methods: credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) or check draft. You can sign up online by credit card. To sign up using check draft, contact customer support at 801-805-1351.

    Is a credit check or contract required?
    No. YellowBlock does not perform a credit check to inquire about credit history. The only credit "check" we do is check if your credit card has sufficient funds to pay for your account (if paying by credit card). Also, no contract is required. You can sign up for as long as you'd like, and you may cancel at any time.

    What realty information do I need to have ready at signup?
    You've already memorized the realty information you'll need at signup, such as your contact phone number(s), email address, broker name, etc. That's all you'll need. No listings or website information is needed at signup. You'll have plenty of opportunities later to add this information to your account.


    Building Your Real Estate Website

    Is YellowBlock easy to use?
    Of course! You don't need any previous experience in website building to use YellowBlock. Most of the processes for setting up and maintaining your website aren't much different than what you're already used to doing on the Internet. For example, if you've ever gone through the process of purchasing something online, the process for adding a property listing to your website is just as easy.

    Do I have to know HTML?
    No. HTML (an Internet programming language) is not required, although you may use HTML code if you're familiar with it. YellowBlock is set up such that you can literally just point and click to build and maintain your website. You want your entire site to be featured in blue color? No problem. Just click on Homepage Editor, click the blue color button, and your entire site now appears in a blue theme. How's that for easy?!!

    How long will it take me to build a website?
    We realize your time is valuable. Building and managing your website shouldn't require much of your time. Therefore, once you signup, your website is automatically created and filled with pre-written content that you can customize later. But if you choose not to customize this content--even if you never log in to your account again--your website already has valuable information for customers and leads, such as buyer and seller tips, a Dream Home Locator, and more!     Can I use FrontPage or Dreamweaver with YellowBlock?
    No. We do not guarantee YellowBlock will work with pages created in FrontPage or Dreamweaver, due to specialized coding added by these software programs. If you wish, you may copy your HTML code created by these software programs and paste it on your YellowBlock website pages to see if it works. However, we do not offer support for pages created in FrontPage or Dreamweaver.

    How do I add property listings to my website?
    Adding a listing to your website is as simple as entering information about the listing (you can even just mark the checkboxes we've provided to speed up the amenities process), scanning and uploading a photo, and adding any additional information you'd like. YellowBlock will soon allow you to extract your listings directly from local or national MLS websites.

    Can I upload MPG, PDF, MP3, WAV, and other multimedia files?
    Definitely. Each listing on your website has "tabs" at the top. You can add a new tab for each new file you upload for things such as a image of the floor plan, a virtual tour, a flyer, and so on. Or you can even create a new page for additional information, such as a detailed description of the listing.


    Promoting Yourself Online

    How will customers and leads find my website?
    Just as many of your "traditional" leads don't find you without you first making yourself available through advertising and personal contacts, your online leads can't find you until you make yourself available on the Internet. The first step is to have a professional website with listings and valuable information for buyers and sellers. The second step is to promote your website both online (search engines, emails, etc.) and offline (placing your website address on your listings, business card, etc.).     How do I contact the people who visit my website?
    With YellowBlock, contacting the people who visit your website is easy using the tools provided with your account. You will receive information about visitors to your site in three different ways: (1) visitors can click on the "Contact Me" button and complete an online form to contact you, (2) visitors can inquire about your listings or use the Dream Home Locator, and (3) visitors can click on your email link, found on any page of your website. If visitors use the Contact Me online form or the Dream Home Locator, personal information about those visitors (name, address, contact info) is automatically entered in your YellowBlock Address Book. Then, simply use your YellowBlock Email to respond to these contacts!

    Will YellowBlock submit my website to search engines and other directories?
    For your benefit, we have chosen not to include a tool that will submit your website to multiple search engines simultaneously for one simple reason: research has shown that websites that are submitted to search engines using a "bulk" submission tool usually receive a lower ranking than those websites submitted individually by hand. This means that if you submit your website to 100 search engines at once using a bulk submission tool and another agent submits her site to 100 search engines individually by hand, the other agent's website may appear before yours on a search engine.

    Therefore, to achieve higher rankings, we recommend you take time to submit your site to each major search engine individually. Yes, it will take more time, but the rewards will be worth it! (Don't worry, we'll help you out--your YellowBlock account includes a Search Engine Optimizer, as well as tips on submitting your website to search engines.)


    Registering a Domain Name

    What is a domain name? Do I need one?
    A domain name is often referred to as a website address. It usually starts with "www" and looks something like this: "www.google.com". Like a trademark, each domain name is completely unique. Once a domain name has been registered by someone, the specific combination of letters and numbers cannot be used or registered by anyone else.

    Many people use the name of their business or some other type of slogan for their domain name to attract visitors to their website or make it easy to remember. By default, your YellowBlock includes a domain name that is part of YellowBlock's domain name. Meaning, your domain name (website address) would be something like "www.yellowblock.com/jennymiller". Although you are not required to have a personal domain name, we recommend you register your own domain name for the benefit of your customers and leads. For example, you could register a name like "www.jennymiller.com" or "www.floridarealestate.com" (as long as the name isn't already taken by someone else). YellowBlock makes it easy to register a domain name at signup or by logging in to your account. For a one-time fee of only $19.95, you shouldn't pass up the opportunity to own your own domain name!

    Can YellowBlock register a domain name for me? How much does it cost?
    Yes! To register your own domain name, you'll pay YellowBlock $19.95 once and that's it. Forever! We'll pay the annual renewal fee (an additional $19.95 per year charged to YellowBlock) every year you're with us! You won't find a deal like that anywhere else! (Most domain name registration companies charge $20-$35 for registration and an additional $20-$35 per year.)

    What if I already have a domain name? Can I use it with YellowBlock?
    Yes, you may use your existing domain name with your YellowBlock website. Simply call customer support at 801-805-1351 before or after signing up and we'll help you change the settings on your existing domain name.

    If I register a domain name through YellowBlock, who owns the domain name?
    You "own" the domain name (you actually license any domain name on a yearly basis). YellowBlock takes care of the registration paperwork for you. However, once you cancel your YellowBlock account, you'll be responsible for paying the annual renewal fee. If this fee is not paid, the domain name is open for re-registration by anyone who wants to register it.


    Internet Access

    Does YellowBlock provide Internet access?
    No. You will need to continue using your existing Internet access provider (such as AOL, Earthlink, AT&T, etc.).

    What is an ISP?
    Short for Internet Service Provider, an ISP is a company that provides Internet access. (YellowBlock does not provide Internet access services.) For a monthly fee, the service provider gives you a software package, username, password and access phone number. Equipped with a modem, cable connection, DSL, or high speed service, you can then log on to the Internet and browse the World Wide Web and send & receive e-mail.

    Does YellowBlock offer free phone and email support?
    Absolutely. In fact, free phone support is something many of our competitors do not offer. We realize that some questions are difficult to answer via email, so we have qualified customer service representatives that know every corner of YellowBlock's system. Simply call our support line anytime between 8am and 9pm MST Mon-Fri and you'll receive friendly and helpful service.


    Security & Privacy

    How safe is my information with YellowBlock? Is it shared with third parties?
    Your information is extremely safe with us. We never share information about customers with third parties. It's as simple as that. Read our privacy policy if you'd like more information.

    How fast and reliable are YellowBlock's servers?
    Super fast and rock-solid reliable. We use top-of-the-line equipment for our servers to ensure the fastest speeds possible. We take extra precautions to back up all data on a daily basis, in two locations and on two separate storage mediums. If your website or account information is ever lost or accidentally deleted, call us immediately and we'll restore your information from our backup disks.
